Why a web site about The Crystal Image?

When I attended my 20-year class reunion in 1991, I was somewhat surprised by how many of my classmates remembered me best by my association with The Crystal Image.  And yet, the McAlester High School museum had preserved some misleading historical information about us.  In the years since then, I have attempted to assimilate as much historical information about the band as I could get my hands on, in order to establish an historical record.  It is difficult to know exactly how best to apply this information (let's face it, it is a relatively small number of us who even care).  I have supplied much of this information to the MHS museum (a great collection of memorabilia - make a point to visit next time you are "home").  Believe it or not, I still have requests for some of these pictures and recordings!  So, the idea donned on me to make it available to anyone who cared, in the form of this web site.

Is there more than this?

Probably.  In fact, a secondary purpose for this site is to solicit additional memorabilia from others who may happen to have saved something of relevance to this site.  As mentioned on the music page, these are, to my knowledge, the only recordings of The Crystal Image in existence.  I would love to learn that I am wrong about that!  If anyone has any additional music, I would really like to add to this sparse collection!  We had Briggs Printing do up a bunch of posters, which we used to promote our dances.  These were really cool posters, utilizing a line drawing we "borrowed" from the cover of the first Five Americans album, and the photo collage shown in the ad posted here on the pictures page.  My grandmother had one of these posters in her house, but when she moved into a nursing home and later died, a lot of her personal stuff disappeared.  There must be more of those posters somewhere!  All visitors to this site are asked to submit (at least loan) any such memorabilia you may have held on to.  I can't pay, but I will certainly give credit to any contributors.

Where are they now?

This is very much an area where I would ask for more help!  I know that Kenny is the managing editor of Lake Eufaula Publishing, handling two weekly newspapers — Eufaula Indian Journal and McIntosh County Democrat.  He is also doing freelance writing and editing.  I've heard that Larry and DeWayne (who are cousins) still play together around McAlester, but I haven't had any first-hand information in years.  Birnie and his lovely wife Leesa are still in Oklahoma.  As for other brief members of the group - Donnie and Ronnie - I haven't heard anything.  Any information about any of them is relevant and, if verifiable, would be added to this site's historical record.  As for me, I am in Colorado Springs where I work as a Pediatrician at a medium-sized U.S. Army Hospital.  My three kids are married and gone, and now it is just my wife, Kathleen, and me.  We have, currently, three lovely granddaughters who live here in town, for whom we often baby-sit.  We have a family web site which you are invited to visit.
